Goddess fest in France

Anyone traveling in France between late March and October this year might think about visiting the Musée des Tumulus de Bougon, located in the department of Deux-Sèvres. The museum is worth a visit at any time, as it is located in a prehistoric park filled with Neolithic burial tombs dated as early as 4500 BC. But from March 24 to October 2, the museum will also be hosting a special exhibit devoted to “Female Goddesses,” including some 180 figurines and other images from the Near East, Egypt, and Greece, and other Goddess-rich spots. The publicity material raises the questions, “What roles did women play in different civilizations, over the millennia? What was their power, their status, their rights? Symbols of fertility, of wisdom and of life, whether in the form of cult objects or daily life, women are omnipresent in archaeological collections.”
