Goddess big in Canada
For a very kind review of The Goddess and Bull, check out the opinion of Greg Gatenby in Books in Canada, which can be viewed on the Amazon.ca home page for the book (search by title or author.) Since Gatenby is a major figure in Toronto literary circles and former director of its book festival, I am particularly proud of this one. I did promise, however, to let visitors to this site know if there were negative comments about the book. Gatenby's review, along with several other recent ones (for example in the Providence Journal and in Library Journal) suggest that there might have been just a little too much biographical material about some of the book's more "minor" characters. I would be interested in hearing reader reaction to this. My goal was to explain the archaeology through the characters, rather than in dry terms, thus making the more difficult concepts more accessible to the general reader. But perhaps I got carried away? Let me know what you think!
