The archaeology community has been mourning the death of Bruce Trigger late last week, the McGill University archaeologist and historian of archaeology. Trigger was a major figure in the field and will be sorely missed, especially for his constant encouragement of younger scholars. I never met him in person, but interviewed him at length by telephone for my book The Goddess and the Bull. He graced its back cover with a very kind blurb, calling it a "classic," which coming from the leading historian of archaeology in the world was a major compliment.
